History and scholarship
Insurance theory builds on Knight's (1921) split of risk and uncertainty, Arrow's (1963, AER) analysis of moral hazard and Rothschild and Stiglitz's (1976) adverse-selection equilibrium. Hazell et al. (1986) and the World Bank (Mahul & Stutley, 2010) discuss why crop insurance needs public support. The qualification is reported to date from the mid-2010s.
Getting it
It is generally a first-stage multiple-choice exam (insurance law, disaster insurance law, crop science) and a second-stage written exam. Check notices. Requirements, subjects, credit and practicum rules, pass criteria and dates can change; always check the administering body's notice and current law.
Work and careers
Assessors are often commissioned by insurers for seasonal field surveys. Compare with claims adjusters; links to tree doctors and drone pilots.
