Effect and limits

Certified content mail doesn't by itself create an obligation or allow enforcement, but it's proof that you gave notice—of contract termination, a demand for a deposit, or a damages claim. A demand for payment pauses the statute of limitations, but only if you follow up with a lawsuit, payment order, or seizure within six months.

How to send one

Bring three copies to a post office (one to send, one for the post office, one for you) or send it through Korea Post's website. State the parties, the facts, your demand, a deadline, and what you'll do if ignored. Keep it factual. It works much like a U.S. demand letter sent by certified mail with a copy retained. For deposit disputes, see the Housing Lease Protection Act. General information only.

FAQ

What if they refuse delivery?
Sending and contents are still proven, and unjustified refusal may count as delivery.
Does a lawyer need to send it?
No, but a lawyer's letterhead adds pressure.
