Eligibility and payments

Debtors with ongoing income and up to ₩1 billion in unsecured and ₩1.5 billion in secured debt can apply. Monthly payments equal income minus a court-set living allowance (about 60% of median income), typically for three years, and total payments must exceed what creditors would get in bankruptcy. A stay order halts collection and garnishment.

Compared with other options

Personal bankruptcy liquidates assets when repayment is impossible; Credit Counseling and Recovery Service programs renegotiate debts outside court. Rehabilitation lets you keep your job and assets, much like U.S. Chapter 13, but taxes, fines, and child support aren't discharged. It affects your credit score and can stay a creditor's payment order. General information only.

FAQ

Can gambling debts be included?
You can apply, but courts scrutinize them closely.
What if I miss payments?
Missing three or more can get the plan dismissed; ask to modify it.
