History and scholarship
Polanyi (1966) introduced tacit knowledge; Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995) the SECI model for making it explicit. Levitt and March (1988) saw organisations storing experience in routines; Szulanski (1996, SMJ) analysed internal 'stickiness'; Argote and Ingram (2000) linked knowledge transfer to advantage. In medicine, Patterson et al. (2004) studied handoff strategies and Starmer et al. (2014, NEJM) reported fewer errors after a structured handoff programme.
